Rethinking my approach to mled.me

I am moving the A-Record for mled.me to point at this Tumblr blog instead of aggregating my content with chi.mp. At the same time, I’m restarting my blogging from scratch. There will be no more posts to any subdomain blogs, including my personal blog and Dan being open. To organise my posts I’ll be using tags; so far I’ve added a tag to the top nav for each of the subdomains I used to spread content across (where still relevant).

Why Tumblr? Over the past few months my love of Tumblr has only grown. Since moving my personal blog to Posterous, I’ve come to find a number of small details that frustrate me - nothing technical, just the nature and structure of the community.

In fact that’s the key difference: the approach to community. Tumblr has a fantastic collection of content to browse and it’s easy to see what is trending as snippets that quickly become popular appear in the Dashboard. I don’t get agitated at seeing the same content reposted 6 times because the “Like” feature covers that. For some reason the Favorite button doesn’t seem to get used in the same way on Posterous.

Categorising posts by media type is an equally important feature of Tumblr, it’s the same approach to filtering that is used with a twitter feed in JournoTwit. But it was the recent announcement of pages and redirects that finally drove me to take the plunge.

I’ve already moved blogging platform three times in 14 months and started a few spur-of-the-moment blogs like totaltwit and wbic, let’s see how long this lasts…
